Cut a hole in the top or side of the pumpkin and insert a small solar garden light. They are less than a dollar each at Walmart or Target. A big plus is you never have to remember to light them! They will turn on automatically each night.

Spray the inside of the pumpkin with a 1:10 vinegar-water solution to help them rot a bit slower. It is important to use vinegar instead of bleach since bleach is deadly to wildlife that may see your pumpkin as a snack.

3. Save Those Scraps
Don’t throw your pumpkin scraps in the trash! Instead take them outside to your compost pile, garden, or tree line. The scraps are a great treat for squirrels and deer.
